Summerslam

🤯 WWE HISTORY FUN FACT — AUGUST 29

32 years ago today, WWE gave us one of the strangest main events in company history:

THE UNDERTAKER vs. THE UNDERTAKER. ⚰️😳

At SummerSlam 1994, Ted DiBiase brought out his own “Undertaker,” while Paul Bearer insisted he had the real Deadman. The two finally collided — and Bearer’s Undertaker won after three Tombstone Piledrivers.

Only in 1994. 😂

37 years ago today, WWE essentially turned a movie villain into a pay-per-view main eventer.

At SummerSlam 1989, actor Tom “Tiny” Lister reprised his Zeus character from No Holds Barred and teamed with Randy Savage against Hulk Hogan & Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake.

The Hogan-Zeus movie rivalry had officially spilled straight into WWE storylines. 🎬➡️🤼

19 years ago today, John Cena and Randy Orton collided one-on-one at a WWE PPV for the first time.

At SummerSlam 2007, Orton hit the RKO and came within inches of ending Cena’s nearly year-long WWE Championship reign — but Cena survived and finished The Legend Killer with an FU to retain. 🏆

The beginning of one of WWE’s defining rivalries. 🔥

35 years ago today, Bret Hart won the first singles championship of his WWE career, submitting Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam 1991.

What makes the match even more remarkable? Curt Hennig wrestled it with a badly injured back that would ultimately sideline him for years — and the two still produced an all-time classic. 🔥

27 years ago today, Mankind shocked the world at SummerSlam 1999. 🤯

With then-Minnesota Governor Jesse “The Body” Ventura as special guest referee, Mankind defeated “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Triple H in a Triple Threat Match to capture the WWE Championship. 🏆

One of the most uniquely Attitude Era main events ever.
